Escape the crowds of neighbouring Abersoch and just a short drive you will find the beautiful, sandy beach of Porth Ceiriad (owned by the National Trust). A south-east facing beach which is situated on a remote stretch of coast, between Abersoch beach and Hells Mouth, near the southern tip of the Llyň Peninsula. Despite its beauty, very few know or manage to find this hidden treasure. Porth Ceiriad is rarely very busy with only a few other people to share with. Trust your instinct and continue driving off the beaten track until you get to a dead end car park on the cliff top above the beach. Around a 10-15 minutes walk which involves trekking across some fields where you could see some rabbits running out of site and local sheep staring at you. Then you will need to navigate down some steep steps cut into the spectacular cliff side, here you are rewarded with the beautiful sand and inviting blue waters, the effort making you appreciate the award even more so.
The surf at Porth Ceiriad is about the best on the Llŷn Peninsula and can produce large powerful, spectacular waves that are more suited to experienced surfers who you will see taking them on. Be careful and don’t get caught out by rip tides. There is no lifeguard on site, Although on calmer days all can enjoy more suitable beginner waves, from body boards to paddle boards. Abersoch offers professional surfing tutors for beginners and experts.
Porth Ceiriad is popular with sunbathers and  other watersports too and in the summer whilst your toes are touching the ocean, you will often see various watercraft on the water from paddle boards, right up to yachts. Turn away from the sea for a moment and take a look back at the grand cliffs where you will see layers of rocks revealing millions of years of geological evolution.
Wildlife is a plenty here! If you visit early or late in the day, there is a good chance of seeing the dolphins coming close to shore with their playful manner. Home to various bird species and a good variety of fish species, such as the dogfish, gurnard, bass, pollock, bream, skate, mackerel, flounder, whiting and conger. Being a Dog friendly beach, the whole family can enjoy this slice of raw beauty!
So head on down to this simply stunning beach which is clean and well kept. Remember to pack your own refreshments and shade/windbreaks as there are no facility’s at Porth Ceiriads sandy beach. This is just a small price to pay for the enjoyment of this simply stunning slice of Wales. You will have to drag yourself away!
The car park is accessible through Nant y Big farm - (a coin meter barrier exists for car park access).
